When you don’t go to the party…. you make other plans.

Happy Friday peeps.

If you follow my Facebook page you might of seen I’m off to lunch with some fellow blogger’s who have been doing it for years. Unlike me who has been doing it on and off. I do know the girls,  yes from following their blogs as well I have met a few before. Why are we lunching????

Well you see there is this thing called Pro-Blogger and well you know what I thought you had to be a Pro to attend. Well not the down and dirty type Pro but the Pro of the professional kind. Well I was wrong if you were lucky enough to have the cash lying around the house at the time, you could just buy yourself a ticket. Maybe even snag one before they sold out.

Yep you just need to blog to attend.

So back to the ladies that lunch. We are off to lunch to kind of have our own little amateur blogger conference. I don’t know how the other ladies might feel about that title as they, Really are professional at this gig.

So I’m taking my pen and paper to take down a few notes.

Hopefully next year the stars will a line and I will be able to get myself a ticket. So I’m putting my husband on notice he will have to run the house hold for a weekend next year.

Have a great weekend

Mumma need’s coffee stat.

Today was a one cup of coffee day.

Not by choice. The fact is my family went into self destruct mode this morning of epic proportion.

We had tears, yelling, more tears, more yelling, a few F bomb’s dropped along the way. A little bit more yelling a few more tears. Than calm came to us all as we hoped in the car. It was like we all took a deep breath and thought I don’t have to see you for a whole 6 hours.

Except for….. walking in the school gate I ask Master 8 if he had his homework that is due, that we spent the morning yelling over to get it done in time. It did get done in time after I started to write a note to Mrs B about why it wasn’t done. That seemed to motivate Master 8 to finish it.

So life lesson to Master 8 you are now older enough to pack your bag. Make sure you put the homework in your school bag. He now has to write 100 maths facts for not taking his homework in.

Now time to boil the jug.

21 Day Whole Food Challenge!!

It has been months since I last blogged. We have had a house that has just seemed to be sick. One week or another one of us has been sick. I have been off for months now. I seem to be getting everything that is going around. So when I saw a post on Facebook the other week to start eating whole food I thought I’m going to take up that challenge. This isn’t a diet as I’m not on any restriction’s this is about simply eating more real food.

So I thought I would share with you day 3 in how I’m feeling….

This week was to focus on Breakfast. For me normally breakfast would consist of me having 2 cups of coffee while I get the kids ready for school and get myself ready to get out the door by 8AM. As you can tell the focus in the mornings is not on me but the little people in my life. I would never let the kids leave the house without breakfast so why was I letting myself do it and put my own needs aside. I’m a right that’s what we do. Well if I don’t look after myself than who will. So on Monday I decided that I was going to have breakfast each day. So we are now up to day 3 and I’m happy to say that…

Day 1. Porridge with frozen raspberries to cool it down so I could eat it.

This wasn’t a successful breakfast for me. I won’t go into details but it took for ever to eat.

Day 2. A mixed berry smoothie with a banana and chia seeds.

This was not only delicious but very filling and it was easy to sip as I went on with my normal routine.

Day 3. Scrambled eggs on homemade bread.

I had a lot of time today to make breakfast as we have a public holiday in QLD.

Eating breakfast is so important why have I been doing it wrong for so many years now. They say it takes 21 days to break a habit let’s see if this is true.

I would like to thank Lisa Corduff for putting the challenge together. She has been sending daily emails with tips and hints to try and help, giving lots of idea’s about what to eat.

What do you normally eat for breakfast?

Flash Back Friday- First Love

What do you think of when asked what your first love is….

I thought about my dummy that was short lived only loved it for a couple of years. My Raggedy Ann Doll lost that some where in my travels.

So who was the first person to win my heart. It was my Sister. I can still remember my Aunty walking me into the hospital to see my Mum after she had my sister. I have no memory of my Sister on this day. I was probably too overwhelmed with the fact I was no longer an only child.

Writing this might might make my other siblings a little bit jealous. I do love you all I promise.

Growing up we had lots of fight’s one that comes to mind was we once made our Mum count how many chips were on each others plate. As we didn’t want the other one to have more chips. We shared a room together for way too long. We use to make up our own games, walk to the local swimming pool at a really young age (you wouldn’t do that now). We grew up in the country so we had lots of room to run around practice cartwheels and handstands. Always competitive with one another.

Looking back it was all these things that have made us stronger and still want to call each other when ever there is a problem. I’m sure even now we still drive each other crazy (I know we do) with things that we do. But nothing can break the bond a sister has. So I love my sister as much as I love a good Pie.

Tips for surviving on 1 income.

I have been a stay at home mum now for the last 3 years. During that time I have often been asked how do you survive on one income. It can be done it just take s a lot of dedication and knowing the difference between a luxury or a necessity. The biggest saver we found once we had paid all the bills was to be smart about the way we shopped and looking for what one might call a bargain. Just because it is on sale do you really need it?

So I’m hoping to add too this small list of some good ideas on how to save and keep more money in your pocket.

What a better time to look at how your money is going than just before tax time.

Handy tips for saving money:

  1. Meal plan it could be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
  2. It will help with the shopping list. Write a list before you go shopping leave it around the house for a few days and add anything that you need to it.
  3. Buy food that is in season
  4. Check out your local farmers market they are popping up all over the place.
  5. Look at the catalogues for what’s on sale. Include in your meal plan.
  6. On-line shop, now I know they charge a fee for delivery. Sometimes it is cheaper on set days. Just check. But you can see what you are spending as you go. I have been know to delete items to cover the delivery cost before.
  7. Avoid going back to the shop as that $2.00 bottle of milk is going to cost you and extra $30 as you see all those things on sale.
  8. Always have a UHT milk or a few in the cupboard. They are always on sale and they are normally 2lt for $2.00.
  9. Freeze bread, make your own or buy wraps to have as a backup.
  10. Keep your fridge and pantry organised so you can see what you have. Meal plan around your pantry you might have a lot of things to make meals instead of buying and adding more look and see what you can make. Use all your fruit and veggie’s try not to waste anything. Make stock or throw in a soup or a strew.
  11. Have a meat free night.
  12. Have a tin food night, a toasted sandwich night. Just remember you don’t have to go to a lot of effort every night, I bet the kids don’t complain this night.
  13. Make extra and take for lunch or freeze as a single meal.
  14. Cook up a storm every now and then Freeze if you have the room. Look at what snacks for the kids you can freeze. I have a cookie dough I keep in the freezer I just cut as I need it.
  15. Drink more water. A glass before a meal will make you feel full quicker.
  16. Use powdered milk for cooking.  If you find you are using to much of the bottle when you cook. It won’t change the flavour to the end result.
  17. Try not to eat out as much. This is hard as it is something it’s so handy.
  18. Learn to say NO!!! I struggle with this one.
  19. Eat less meat bulk meals up with veg, pasta or beans.
  20. The Slow cooker can be your best friend on busy days. Have it all prep the night before and pop it all in the morning. If you add a little extra you could have leftovers for the next night or freeze for later.
  21. Grow your own herb if you like fresh so much cheaper.
  22. Eat Breakfast this might sound silly. Just think about how much more snacking you do if you don’t eat breakfast. (coffee isn’t breakfast) I’m guilty of this.

More saving around the house:

  1. Have a 2 light rule in the house this might not suit your family but turn a few light’s off.
  2. Turn that power point off if it’s not in use.
  3. Lower the wattage in your light’s and lamps.
  4. Turn the T.V off. Don’t have the same show on different T.V’s
  5. Use your off peak time to your advantage. Eg/ washing, dishwasher, shower
  6. Get rid of your Credit Card. Did you know the bank will loan you more money if you don’t have one.
  7. Set bills up to be paid how you get paid. So that when the bill comes in it is either paid in full or you only owe a small about or shock yourself and be in credit.
  8. Always pay your bills on time.
  9. Walk if you can. Sound good but doesn’t always suit.
  10. Consolidate your loans just talk to the bank it’s better to have one loan than to have 2.
  11. Set up a spread sheet to track all your money, don’t forget to look at doing a yearly spread sheet as well. Just to make sure you have everything covered. Nothing worse than forgetting you have to pay car rego, insurance and roadside assistance all in the same month. That’s the stuff that if you want to try to avoid.
  12. Take your spending money out of the bank so you know how much you have spent. It a easy way to keep track of it.

Please share your tips so I can add them to the list. Also let me know if any of these have been helpful.

Day 2: A Favourite Movie

I’ve spent a lot of today thinking about my favourite movie. Which one would I choose….

There are so many to pick from. How does one really choose a favourite.

I was tossing up Dirty Dancing, Footloose & Calamity Jane but in the end as I was typing I went hang on….. There is one movie you don’t even own it but you just love it….

The movie I pick is The Wizard of Oz.

Why,  you might ask…. for me it has everything, Singing, dancing, witches, good & evil, a wizard, talking animals, monkeys and they can fly, Shoes lets not forget those ruby slipper’s.

Now I have been told on the odd occasion that I cackle just like a witch….. I’m ok with that.

Some of my fav quotes from the movie are-

Wicked Witch of the West: Going so soon? I wouldn’t hear of it. Why my little party’s just beginning.

Wicked Witch of the West: Just try and stay out of my way. Just try! I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!

Wicked Witch of the West: You cursed brat! Look what you’ve done! I’m melting! melting! Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would have thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness? Oooooh, look out! I’m going! Oooooh! Ooooooh!

Dorothy: How do you talk if you don’t have a brain?

Scarecrow: Well, some people without brains do an awful lot of talking don’t they?

Dorothy: Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my!

I could go on for age’s with the quotes.

I really can’t say why this is one of my fav’s, but the fact I can reuse a few of those quotes on a regular basis might be why. It also reminds me of my childhood and sitting down in front of the TV watching it with my sister’s on a weekend. Singing along and jumping when the witch appears on screen. Screaming ‘fly my pretties fly” The way you get sucked in with the black & white and then it turns to colour. The music in the back ground always seems to have you on the edge of your sit waiting for something to happen.

It’s all those things combined that I love about it. it might be an old movie but it’s still a great movie to me.

Please leave a comment about you favourite movie. There are so many great movies out there.

So until next time this is Margaret signing off. (sorry if they ever retire dream job)

Day 1. My day in 100 words

This post has been helped along after a prompt from Claire Hewitt to write a blog post for all of May. (Thanks Cate for your help in the Hyperlink this doesn’t count in my 100 works hehe)

My day was going as per norm until just after lunch I put Master 2 down for his afternoon nap. Then I heard a crash, bang and then a cry. He had climbed out of his cot and fallen out.

Yep I have finally admitted he is no longer a baby. After the nice cuddle that follows all injuries. The realisation of a BIG bed before sundown was a must.

A book before bed, cuddles from big brother’s & Dad.
